AN investmentof £1.9 million has been secured for the creation of a new Rivers Agency regional office in Omagh.

Confirmation of the money secures the jobs of the 59 people who currently work in the Woodside Avenue office in the town.

Enabling works to prepare the new site on St Julian’s Road will commence this month with a completion date of September 2014.
Wonderful news.

Announcing the investment West Tyrone MLA, Declan McAleer, who is a member of the Department for Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) committee in Stormont said this is “wonderful news” for both the 59 Rivers Agency staff based in Omagh and the wider construction industry locally.

The Sinn Féin representative added, “We fully welcome confirmation of this significant investment by DARD Minister, Michelle O’Neill.

“We have known for some time that the existing facilities on Woodside Avenue are not fit for purpose. Most of these buildings were constructed in the 1960s, they are cramped and are separated by a work yard through which cars and heavy machinery pass.”
